The Cooperative

Proteas La Palma is a cooperative that was created in 2002. It is located in the municipality of Breña Alta, La Palma. It is formed by 80 members, who are all the producers of proteas in the island of La Palma.

This cooperative is exclusively dedicated to the production and sale of cut flowers from the family of the Proteacea. The farmlands where these flowers are grown are located in the area of Medianías (general name for areas between 600 and 1500m.a.s.l. in the Canary Islands). Its production has grown since the creation of the cooperative: from 125.000 stems exported in 2002 to 1.200.000 which is the amount expected for 2018-2019. This means that there are more than 12 employees during the harvest season.

The experience with this crop is wide, so the cooperative has taken position as one of the most important national and international protea companies. This fact has been possible due to the amount of exported product, but also to its high quality, given by the weather conditions of our island and the experience of our farmers.
